IP65 rated 16kWh residential ESS hits the market: What 11,000 cycles mean for homeowners

Shenzhen, China – June 2026 – EXLIPORC New Energy (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. has announced the commercial release of its latest residential energy storage system, the ESS-51.2/314-DC-B — a 16kWh LiFePO₄ battery pack that combines an IP65 protection rating, 11,000-cycle design life, and a space-saving form factor purpose-built for modern home installations.

Why IP65 matters for residential energy storage

Most residential battery systems on the market today carry an IP54 or IP55 rating — adequate for indoor or sheltered installations, but a potential liability in garages, semi-outdoor areas, or humid climates.

IP65 changes that equation. The “6” denotes complete protection against dust ingress; the “5” means the enclosure can withstand low-pressure water jets from any direction. For homeowners, that translates into:

  • Garage floor placement without担心 humidity or concrete dust shortening battery life.
  • Semi-outdoor installations (covered patio, carport, utility closet) become viable.
  • Coastal and high-humidity regions — the battery’s internal electronics are sealed against salt-laden air and condensation.

“IP65 in a residential battery is still relatively rare,” noted a product engineer at EXLIPORC. “We designed this unit specifically for real-world home environments, not just climate-controlled utility rooms.”

11,000 cycles: The new durability benchmark

The ESS-51.2/314-DC-B is built around LFP71173207/325Ah prismatic LiFePO₄ cells configured in a 1P16S topology (16 cells in series, 1 in parallel), delivering a nominal 51.2V system voltage — the de facto standard for residential 48V-class battery systems worldwide.

The rated cycle life is ≥11,000 cycles at 25°C ±2°C, 0.5C charge/discharge rate, retaining ≥70% State of Health (SOH).

To put that number in perspective:

Cycle life Daily use Calendar life (approx.)
6,000 cycles 1 cycle/day ~16 years
11,000 cycles 1 cycle/day ~30 years

For a homeowner, 11,000 cycles effectively means the battery is no longer the limiting factor in the system’s service life — the inverter or balance-of-system components will likely need replacement first.

Compact footprint, high energy density

Despite packing 16kWh of usable energy, the unit measures just 540mm × 242mm × 791mm (W × D × H) and weighs 130kg ±5kg. The inclusion of landing pulleys (built-in wheels) is a deliberate design choice — a 130kg battery is difficult to maneuver into a home utility room, but the pulley system allows two people to position it without specialist equipment.

The form factor is optimized for corner placement or wall-side installation in garages and utility closets where floor space is at a premium.

Built-in BMS and parallel expansion

The integrated intelligent BMS (Battery Management System) continuously monitors cell voltage, pack current, and temperature. It also performs active cell balancing during charge/discharge cycles — a critical function for extending cycle life and maintaining capacity over time.

Multiple ESS-51.2/314-DC-B units can be connected in parallel to scale up both capacity and power output. For a typical household with 10–20kWh daily consumption, two or three parallel units provide full-day backup coverage with peak shaving capability.
